HUBBARDSTON -- April 28, 2026, Hubbardston Board of Health clears the way for a long-delayed septic replacement on Brigham Street. At its April 28 meeting, the board confirmed that the owner of 6 Brigham Street has submitted a complete application, engineering plans, installer permit from Integrity Set Development, and all fees, for a new 2,500-gallon septic system estimated at roughly $33,500, and indicated the design will be approved. A neighbor who has lived next door for two years said sewage odor has forced her household to run air conditioning rather than open windows and made outdoor use of her patio impossible; she said the owner told her he hopes to finish the work before his father returns in early May, giving contractors a roughly two-week window. The board also opened discussion on updating local water testing regulations after a health inspector reported that at least one business is paying approximately $600 a month for monthly water testing, a frequency that may exceed what state DEP guidelines actually require for commercial facilities; any formal rule change would need a 45-day public notice period. In financial business, the board unanimously approved Warrant Nos. 19 and 20 totaling $55.00, and a board member presented an internal account analysis flagging that the current multi-fund structure makes it impossible to determine the Board of Health's actual balance at any given time.
