Library Trustees Approve Minutes, Chart Path for Lower-Level Renovation Bids

HUBBARDSTON — October 2, 2025 — Hubbardston Library Trustees approved their September minutes and advanced plans for a lower-level renovation bid at the October 2 meeting. The board confirmed it will focus its Capital Improvement Plan Committee submission on replacing the library's obsolete exterior lift, which no longer meets ADA requirements, and agreed to draft a formal Request for Proposals for interior work including the removal of a partition wall — a project expected to exceed $10,000 and require competitive public bidding. Director Chris Kisiel reported 378 September patron visits, 775 digital checkouts, and an estimated $4,200 raised at the annual road race, slightly above recent years. Trustees also raised concerns that the library was excluded from the town's ADA building assessment process and that the upper level of the building was omitted entirely from the report; trustee Morgan Brinker confirmed she had submitted corrections and a request for an upper-level assessment to the town administrator. A virtual policy review session is scheduled for October 30 via Microsoft Teams before the policies proceed to town counsel for legal review.
