Hubbardston Select Board Votes to Ban Heavy Trucks on Brigham Street

HUBBARDSTON — October 20, 2025 — Hubbardston Select Board unanimously approved a Brigham Street heavy vehicle exclusion request to MassDOT and seated a nine-member First Meeting House Preservation Committee at its October 20 meeting. The board voted to submit the application — backed by MRPC traffic and axle-count data, topographic maps, and road dimension reports — to restrict vehicles over two tons on the upper segment of Brigham Street between Evergreen Street and Main Street, with a reroute via Evergreen to Route 68; MassDOT expects to rule within roughly ten days on an expedited basis. The board expanded the preservation committee from the originally proposed five seats to nine, appointing Jonathan Brinker, Rick Green, Susan Worth, Michael Stoll, Betty Ian Sharp, Carol Whitney, Lori Ortiz Epino, and Gary Kangas to terms expiring June 30, 2026, with a ninth seat reserved for a Select Board liaison. The board also approved a temporary First Meeting House use policy conditional on insurance confirmation of public-use coverage, tabled a private way plowing policy pending legal review, and adopted a joint elected vacancy appointment policy. Town Administrator Nathan Boudreau closed the meeting by announcing he intends to end his employment with Hubbardston on December 1, 2026, citing "a little too many differences."
