Hubbardston Select Board Appoints Interim Town Administrator Through June 2026
HUBBARDSTON -- January 5, 2026, Hubbardston Select Board unanimously appoints Sean Fitzgerald as interim town administrator through June 30, 2026. The board voted 5-0 on all six motions at its January 5 meeting, including the appointment of Fitzgerald, a former Swampscott town administrator with roughly eight years in that role, following a live interview conducted the same evening. Chair Jeff Williams noted the screening panel, which included board members Katie Young and Williams along with Police Chief Ryan Coocher and Town Clerk Mel, had unanimously recommended Fitzgerald after interviewing all four finalists earlier that day. The board also authorized a $14,000 reserve fund transfer request to the Finance Committee to cover academy and salary costs through July 1 for conditionally hired officer James Moffett, as Chief Coocher warned his two sergeants are "working doubles almost all the time" to fill a three-officer shortfall. Applications for the permanent town administrator search committee are due January 13, with committee recommendations to reach the Select Board by January 19.
