Hubbardston Board of Health adds new member, targets landfill testing end

HUBBARDSTON — October 28, 2025 — Hubbardston Board of Health votes to seat new member and flags rabies case, landfill well problem. The board unanimously approved recommending Dave Rogers to fill an open seat through June 30, 2026, at its October 28 meeting at 48 Gardner Road, with Chair Gael Moncoeur noting Rogers must complete a volunteer application, gain Select Board approval, and be sworn in before voting. The board also disclosed that a raccoon tested positive for rabies on October 17 following a confrontation with a dog at 20 New Templeton Road, with Moncoeur warning residents directly: "there is a possibility of wildlife having rabies in the town of Hubbardston." A push to formally ask the state to end 30 years of landfill monitoring hit a snag when board member Dianna Johnson reported that one monitoring well has been flagged as a deviation and cannot be tested until repaired — a condition that must be resolved before the board can submit a credible cessation request. The board received a $482 check from Templeton Salvage for a recent metal haul and announced a metal recycling event for November 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the DPW property south entrance.
