Panel drops June vote, pursues special meeting

Municipal Complex Building Commission · Meeting of October 21, 2026

HUBBARDSTON — The Municipal Complex Building Committee dropped plans for a June annual town meeting vote and agreed to pursue a special town meeting instead, after design delays and unresolved costs piled up. Committee member Katie said architect Derek's firm still has not delivered mechanical and electrical cost figures, calling the project "a money sink" after overlapping floor plans revealed unnecessary wall demolition. Committee member Seth proposed the fall special-meeting approach, modeled on Princeton's single-article town meeting for its $16 million public safety building, which drew a $1 million state earmark.

Members also could not reconcile an original $240,000 design budget against roughly $650,000 separately spent on roofing and siding, directing finance staffer Anna to pull vendor records. A veterinary practice, grooming business and yoga studio housed in the building remain in limbo, with members saying a planned relocation site on Gardner Road is stalled until a state grant study, not due before fiscal 2027, resolves a deed restriction.
