Open Space Committee plans Burnshirt River conservation with Land Trust

HUBBARDSTON — Open Space Committee advances conservation efforts and trail maintenance work with grant funding resources. The committee met February 26 to approve prior meeting minutes unanimously and review ongoing projects. Treasurer Susan Worth reported combined account balances of $24,799.
The committee is partnering with North County Land Trust to pursue conservation of vacant land along the Burnshirt River, a priority area for both the state Department of Conservation and Recreation and the town. Approximately $4,600 remains available from MassTrails grant funding for additional trail amenities. Rick Jones and Tim Hawley finalized a revised hay contract for committee chair Bob Hatch requiring licensee-applied fertilization and extending options to five additional years.
