Open Space Committee approves Dottie Athens memorial sign

Open Space Committee · Meeting of May 28, 2026

Hubbardston Open Space Committee unanimously approved wording for a memorial to longtime advocate Dottie Athens and submitted $6,320 in project funding for town consideration. Chair Bob Hatch had requested $20,000 initially but scaled back after being advised the larger amount would strain the warrant. The budgeted funds target summer projects with potential safety concerns including Scout Trail hardening and Mount Jefferson fencing.

The committee also welcomed new member Malachy Duggan and reported receiving approximately $2,700 remaining from the state Mass Trails grant.
